Yoga is by far the oldest and the most evolved activity practised across the world. The tradition of yoga goes way back to 5000 years, and it is considered to be very effective for the overall well-being of an individual. Today we tell you about one such name who is bringing a change by making yoga a part of people’s lives. Eylin Pérez, a yoga teacher from Lima, Peru has been familiar with yoga since 2001. It was during her summer holidays she attended a yoga class for the first time. Little did Eylin know that it will be a part of her life in the coming years.
In 2010, during her senior year in high school, she signed up for a Power Yoga class in Lima Yoga, a well-known studio in her hometown. The session was indeed a life-changing experience for her after which she shared it with her family and friends. With time, Eylin started attending yoga classes daily. “Initially, it was a physical challenge. Many of the asanas required flexibility. It was out of my comfort zone, but at the same time, yoga helped me control my thoughts and reconnected my body to the mind and spirit”, said Eylin. Before becoming a yoga teacher, she attended yoga sessions for almost five years.
Eylin’s first training as a yoga teacher was in 2015. That time was indeed challenging as she was going through the treatment of endometriosis which saw her undergo two surgeries. Crediting yoga and daily meditation as the major healers, Eylin revealed that the practise not just kept her calm but also helped her in being positive. She said, “The practice gave me resilience, strength and hope to overcome endometriosis despite having so many obstacles. It has also taught me to be disciplined with my daily habits like adequate sleep, eating clean and exercising daily.”
Considering her teachers as her blessings, Eylin took two Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher training from India. Her passion and commitment towards yoga are commendable, and she has made a routine to wake up at 4 AM to practise yoga before her morning class. Her journey has been a roller-coaster ride with many highs and lows. In 2017, she underwent an ankle surgery which restrained her from walking for two months. The time was depressing for her, but it even tested her patience. After the recovery, Eylin has been travelling across the globe to attend various yoga and meditation workshops.
Currently based in Doha, she has travelled to India, Netherlands, France, Bali, USA and Nepal to attend different workshops. Some of the styles she has tried her hand include Power, Hatha, Iyengar, Yin, Restorative and Ashtanga Vinyasa. Recently in November, Eylin overcame one more challenge as she became a certified skydiver in Cuautla, Mexico. With this, she has built her physical and mental strength, and she is rightly merging yoga and gymnastic skills. Lastly, Eylin Pérez stated that yoga is more than any activity for her. It has not just taught her to be kind and compassionate, but also made her understand the true essence of happiness.
