Tax evasion, customs fraud and fuel smuggling are some of the crimes that could be prevented with the draft of Secretaría de Economía (SE), establishing that goods, both import and export, will be regulated by the Secretaría de Energía (Sener).
This was explained by Mexican businessman Jesús Everardo Villarreal Salinas during an interview; where he assured that the preliminary project presented by the Secretaría de Economía on December 1st, includes several sections applicable to the energy sector.
“One of the important points is there are not only tariffs for hydrocarbons, but also for products such as ethyl alcohol, benzene and toluene, among others” -he pointed out.
“The Secretaría de Energía plays a very important role in this matter, since tax evasion and fuel theft, two evils that have afflicted us for a long time, will be attacked considerably”, said Villarreal Salinas.
The energy sector specialist also recalled that in previous years, the Comisión Reguladora de Energía (CRE) granted marketing permits to a large number of people, which, in the words of Jesús Villarreal, resulted in an increase in the illegal sale of fuel.
Against this background, the Sener eliminated permits of import and export fuels that lasted 20 years or more, and established new guidelines with a five-year duration and the possibility of being extended once more for the same period of time, that is, only 10 years. .
“These measures contribute not only to fighting corruption, but also on improving the quality of the hydrocarbons we consume”, Jesús Everardo Villarreal Salinas concluded.
