People fail to help seek mental health because they fear what they will know. They fear what they will know because they do not know what they think they will know. They default to thinking in fixed mindsets, allowing self and public stigmas to limit their potential for optimum wellness. You are stronger than you think you know. You were created with purpose and for greatness, let us develop your thinking and shift your perspectives.
Jonell L. McPherson, Ed.D.
Each year, mental illnesses affect 19% of the adult population, 46% of teenagers, and 13% of children. Mental health is one of the most important yet most ignored factors in the world today. At some point, every person is affected by something that triggers their mental health, but they refrain from talking about this with any professional due to the various stigmas that prevail in society.
Thankfully, there are many mental health professionals who realize the intensity of the pressure and degree of hesitation people have to go through. These professionals not only encourage people, but they also fully support them and help them speak up, especially about issues that might be bothering them.
Among these people, the name of Jonell L. McPherson is quite prominent. Not only is she known for empowering and inspiring people, but she has also opened Wellness Transformational Centre, LLC (WTC), to help those who are struggling with mental health issues.
Dr. Jonell L. McPherson is a John Hopkins Trained Counselor, Educator, and Supervisor, who is recognized locally and internationally for advocating Mental Health awareness. Her focal point of raising awareness is individuals and systems. She aims to promote the importance of self-love and help struggling individuals understand how they are affected by what they consistently say yes to, tolerate, accept, and accommodate.
Dr. McPherson is also the founder and president of Wellness Transformational Center, LLC in Queens, N.Y., a mental health and education care center that focuses on harmonizing a person’s mind, body, and spirit. Wellness Transformational Centre has been operating since January 2019, inspiring and motivating people from all walks of life: Men, women, children, systems, i.e., family, employees, congregations, organizations, communities). People here are taught how to make healthy lifestyle choices that will synchronize the wellness of their mind, body, and spirit.
Besides helping people reach their full potential, WTC encourages a way of life oriented towards optimal health and wellbeing. Body, mind, and spirit are integrated by the individual to live life more fully within the human and natural community. Due to its excellence in the field, today, WTC has expanded its operations to neighboring cities, including Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx, and Yonkers.
Besides running a successful health education care center, Dr. McPherson is also a Clinical Therapist at MHH Clinical Services and a co-author of the; “School Counseling for Black Male Students Success in 21st Century Urban Schools,” which is edited by Malik S. Henfield and Ahmad R. Washington.
Jonell is publishing her very own book soon, titled; “The Shift: In Perspective.” Jonell has penned this handbook that teaches a person how to transform his wellness by Thinking Well, Doing Well, and Living Free from ‘perceived’ stressors: worry fears, and anxieties.
Through evidence-based research and from a proactive and preventative leadership, she endorses and teaches Life Skills (Thinking Skills, Behavioral Skills, and Emotional Skills) Intervention.
As per Dr. McPherson words: “This book will transform the wellness of a person’s thinking to an understanding of how to shift their perspective in time, especially in circumstantial crises, when a person cannot change their situation, the book explains, not only through evidence-based research, but also from 19 years of her experience, wisdom, and empowering life stories, how a person can choose to always have a positive outlook in life. Like an eagle, we can use those ‘perfect storms’ to lift our thinking and direct our doing to higher altitudes.”
Jonell has been on a “mission with a purpose” as an overachiever from a young age. At the age of 16, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), a double-major degree in Sociology and Psychology minoring in Women Studies at S.U.N.Y. Geneseo.
As she turned 20, Jonell left the United States, just months after her graduation, and traveled to South Korea to teach English and Bible for a year. While living in South Korea, Jonell had the opportunity to visit neighboring countries like Mongolia. She continued teaching there while developing her passion and profession of teaching life skills. Sometime later, Jonell returned to the and ventured on acquiring a Master of Arts (M.A.) Degree in Community Counseling from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.
Dr. McPherson obtained her Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) Degree in the CACREP counseling program of Counselor Education and Supervision (CES), from Argosy University, Washington, D.C. McPherson’s dissertation process was an experience of simultaneous integration where, as she developed in education, she applied her theory in practice at Argosy and John Hopkins University. As a student and doctoral candidate, Jonell co-taught, co-authored, and assisted in the research.
Besides teaching, Dr. McPherson has also traveled and taught as a keynote speaker for Regenerating Lives Ministries: Women-of-Word Retreat and Conference, in Trinidad and Tobago West Indies. Dr. Jonell L. McPherson is passionate about teaching and has answered her life’s calling by becoming a Counselor, Educator, and Supervisor. She aims to make intentional differences in education through her passion and dedication. Her mission is to help others embrace a different perspective, aid their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing… to the extent that one reaches self-actualization.
