In the Bronx neighborhood of New York City, one artist is blending genres with a voice like Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and a production reflective of that used by XXXTentacion. This artist is Fenzrir, and he is taking his metal and rock influences to create highly innovative music that is pushing the boundaries of what a music genre can be. With his recent signing to the New York label Bentley Records, Fenzrir can show the music industry his new rock-rap style.
The aspiring artist accredits his inspiration for his art to the melting pot of cultures and people he met while growing up in the Bronx. Fenzrir, with the help of the producer Fleece, is creating music reminiscent of Hollywood Undead and a sound that feels like Slipknot is entering the world of rap. “My songs generally fluctuate between gentle and melancholic to aggressive rage,” Fenzrir states. “The tracks are layered with a gossamer vocal and a Viking touch that commands the listener’s full attention.” The young genre-bending artist also references his time spent in the American prison system as a source of experience and inspiration for his music.
However, one aspect of Fenzrir’s life trumps the rest of his inspirations. “My greatest inspiration for music is to help people tap into their inner rage and channel it towards what they want to achieve,” he comments. With this idea exemplified in his most recent project, Sun Eater, Fenzrir is now in the middle of production for his currently unnamed, upcoming EP. Fans and critics alike are heavily anticipating this project’s release to hear just how the Bronx artist can, yet again, further the subgenres of rock-rap and metal-rap.
