Passion for selling
When Tom graduated college, he expected that he would be able to dive right into earning big money. He always had the drive to become an entrepreneur, but life never works the way you expect, does it? There was no place that would hire Tom until someone recommended he get a job at Yellow Pages, which started at $22k per year. He worked harder than almost everyone else to become the #2 Salesman for the company in all of Canada. He was able to turn the $22k per year job into a 6-figure career, however, Tom’s entrepreneurial spirit was not able to settle.
The tipping point
Wang’s interests were not best fit to cold calling clients, so he invested in other side hustles. That’s when he started selling hoverboards on Amazon. The business wasn’t performing well, and Tom struggled with clearing the stocks. He then met a friend who told him that they could be sold on Amazon. Tom was trying to sell them on his own website before, but he got zero sales. The moment they were listed on Amazon, there were sales the next morning. Tom had no words. He knew right then that he needed to figure out how Amazon worked.
It took him 8 months to plan and launch his first product. It was a vitamin C serum. His plan—buy reviews and top the charts. However, Amazon declared that they would discontinue this strategy, so sellers could no longer purchase reviews for products. It was a dispiriting moment for the budding entrepreneur, and now it was time to engineer Plan B.
Unfolding success
Tom realized that it’s about the quality you offer, and good reviews will follow. The correct strategy would be to leverage a competitor’s weaknesses. However, after 10 months of unceasing efforts, he still wasn’t there yet, and he was out of $5,000.
Just when Tom was ready to call it quits, his girlfriend sat him down and restored his faith in himself. The couple devised another plan. In 2017, Tom and his girlfriend launched Sdara Skincare on Amazon. It wasn’t an immediate success. They had a few failed product launches, but over time they started generating more and more revenue. To date, Tom has made over 8 million USD in sales.
And that is just the start of the millionaire’s dream. Tom decided to close the chapter of Sdara Skincare and exit for multiple seven figures. From losing $5,000 to earning close to $10 million in three years, Tom has come a long way, and we all can agree that it’s his belief in himself that kept him going and that led him to ultimately live his goals.
“I feel like anybody can do anything if they put their mind to it. Success is just giving 100% of what you have and trying your very best. If you try your best and fail, that is completely ok. If you are not trying your very best and you are just screwing around, that is a waste,” says Tom.
