When it comes to talent or mindset, it is often argued which one is more important. Some entrepreneurs claim that anybody can do anything as long as they work hard, while others argue that an aspiring business owner needs to be talented in order to make it.
The renowned entrepreneur Fred Cary weighs in on the debate. “To me, ideally, it would be a combination of both. You have some talent and you couple that with hard work. But what often happens is that even people with average skill or even without much talent end up being greatly successful with the right mindset. While a talented person might give up after their first failure, somebody with a tough mindset will pick themselves back up when they fall every time. Eventually, those who have the right mindset may in fact do better than those who are talented,” he explains.
Throughout his career, Fred Cary has had great triumphs but he has also faced some failures. What has helped him move forward is the fact that he doesn’t dwell on things that didn’t work out. “What is toxic for entrepreneurs is when they think, ‘man, this always happens to me.’ This is a terrible attitude. When you fail, this doesn’t mean that you’re stupid or incapable. The truth is that everyone messes up. The world doesn’t owe us anything, so it’s up to us to stand up after a failure and continue forward while trying to do better next time,” he remarks.
To Fred Cary, the winning mindset includes the idea that everyone is allowed to make a mistake. Those who realize that mistakes are natural and use them as learning experiences are those who make it in life. Cary has never dealt with a scarcity mindset himself, but he makes a point that successful entrepreneurs tend to think in terms of abundance and opportunity. Fred attributes his successful lifestyle and mindset to his daily habits of waking up at 5 AM and seizing the day.
“I wake up at 5 AM and the first things I do are exercise, meditation and positive affirmations. I look in the mirror and state at least three things that I feel gratitude for that day. I also allocate some time for reading every morning, then I work out for 60 to 90 minutes every morning. I’ve got a trainer who kicks my ass,” Cary says.
To him, cultivating a healthy daily routine is key to ensuring success for any leader and entrepreneur. At 70 years old, Fred Cary looks decades younger and is working the hardest he ever has in his life. The future looks bright for Cary, who has become a pivotal figure in the social media space and an inspiration for hundreds of thousands of people across the globe.
