Matt Sequeira began teaching himself how to play guitar and sing as a high schooler. Initially nervous to show his peers his talent, he’s come a long way as a songwriter and artist. Matt Sequeira spent time at Capitol Records assisting producers at the label. During his time working there, he learned a lot about songwriting. Nowhere is that more evident than on one of his new tracks titled “Demons”.
Holding up the rear of a 5 song EP, “Demons” holds as an anchor to Matt Sequeira’s most recent project “Weirdo”. The project offers a wide range of melodies and unique songwriting aspects that are summed up in the final track.
On “Demons” Matt Sequeira explores his struggle with depression, a topic he hasn’t discussed very much publicly. “What made this subject so hard for me to write about was, that in doing so, I had to hear myself express my pain outside of only my head,” said Matt Sequeira. “Most of it didn’t even make sense on paper in the beginning. I had to really hone in on the lyrics, making it feel almost as if I was in a therapy session.”
The track has already impacted the artist’s audience, amassing almost 10,000 streams on Spotify alone so far. The track’s base layer is a beautiful electric guitar, complemented by steady drums and Matt Sequeira’s punching vocals. Matt’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of his struggle with the mental health disorder that affects over 15 million Americans every day. Matt Sequeira has also battled diabetes his whole life, being diagnosed at the age 16.
Despite fighting daily battles, Matt wants his fans to appreciate the life they live. He said, “I want my fans and listeners to know it is okay to just have fun with who they are and loosen up. Whatever troubles or hardships you are going through will fade and you will succeed and find happiness within yourself. Live your life to the fullest.” Matt plans to release a PopPunk version of “Deck The Halls” in early December.
