The name, Independent Hits which has now gained so much recognition in the world of music, was once not even known to the world. Every person is aware of how many people have worked with the independent record, but very little is known about the brilliant mind behind the record and how it surfaced.
Independent Hits is the creation of a child genius who was widely influenced by music from a very young age. John Jay, the Megamind, was born in New York but moved to Miami quite shortly, where he grew up. It’s no surprise that living in a city that is so widely known for its diverse music paired with growing up in a family where every person was interested in making new sounds and music that caught everyone’s attention, regardless of the age, that the kid found his interests leaning towards music as well. He was only nine when he began playing the piano alongside creating and producing his own music.
Deep love for music, passion, and direction made John realize his true calling, and he decided to set up a record label. He decided to build his own platform and let all of the artists who were in need of help come to him. Not long after, John Jay founded Independent Hits. But of course, no one dared to come forward, since the label was freshly created and pretty new. And that is when the hard work really began.
For several years, there was silence and no submissions. Times were challenging and quite tough, but John Jay stayed determined and waited with patience. Slowly and gradually, submissions started coming in. With every artist who approached the label, John was left to think of how many underrated talented artists the city had, who had no help in promotions or gaining visibility. Finally, John Jay decided that Independent Hits would create stories for the underrated artists. He decided to help promote music that was new and undiscovered to audiences that those artists would have never seen or been able to get in front of. From then on, the label became one of the largest playlist networks, and he started working and getting requests for more established and more prominent artists.
As of today, Independent Hits is one of the largest playlist networks and labels with a growing music catalog and has over 200+ playlists, 10+ million Spotify followers, and 6 million monthly listeners. The genres include POP, R&B, Hip hop, Electronic, Lofi, and Chill.
But the Megamind’s dream was not limited to the record label. He wanted to mark his identity with music, and so far, he has been more than just successful in doing so.
John Jay grew up listening to Pop and R&B music genres. When it was his turn to create some of his own music pieces, he made up his mind to merge the two genres. Since the two genres are total opposites, one would think that they’re quirky, but the right word to use is exceptionally amazing! John’s aim to make music that a larger crowd of the audience would be able to relate to has surely been fulfilled. John’s songs are Sounds are recognized and influenced by The Weeknd, Benny Blanco, Hasley, H.E.R., SG Lewis, Post Malone, Drake, Zayn, Bazzi, and Khalid.
On October 3rd 2019, John Jay released his first single, Best Life. The same year, he released four other singles, Lowkey, Bring That Close, Run, and So Numb, followed by John’s first album, Jaded, which was released on 24th January, 2020. The album has a total of 9 Songs, and the tracks reached over 10 Million streams on Spotify.
After the album’s release came another single, Don’t Fade Away, which hit the markets on 31st January 2020. John also released two other songs, which are a collaboration with Courtney Bennett, Lifetime, released on 24th April 2020, and Back To You, released on 8th May 2020.
As of today, John Jay is working and releasing music with Jean Deaux, Jahkoy, and NEVRMIND. His track, Eastside (feat. Kyan Palmer), is scheduled for release on 19th June 2020.
