In the world of international modeling, Elena Kosmina stands out not only for her achievements but also for her unique perspective on beauty and identity. Representing Ukraine and winning Top Model of the World opened doors that allowed her to connect her cultural roots with her ambitions, while also shaping her views on success beyond titles and appearances. Starting her journey at a young age, Elena has navigated the challenges of the industry with authenticity and resilience. In this interview, she shares insights on balancing ambition with self-awareness, the evolving meaning of beauty, and her advice for young models in a fast-paced world.
1. As someone who has represented Ukraine on international stages, what has modeling taught you about identity and cultural expression, especially in a diverse industry?
Modeling has taught me that identity is a precious gift that you carry with you, regardless of where life takes you. Representing Ukraine has instilled in me a deep pride in my roots, while also allowing me to connect with other cultures on an intimate level. I’ve learned that true cultural expression goes beyond just wearing national symbols; it’s about embodying values, history, and resilience. In a diverse industry, I’ve realized that each unique cultural background brings a new story, enriching our global narrative and reminding me that beauty isn’t defined by conformity but by diversity.
2. After winning Top Model of the World, did your perception of success evolve, and if so, how do you define personal achievement beyond titles and accolades?
Absolutely, winning such a prestigious title was an incredible milestone, but it also led me to reflect on what success truly means to me. I’ve come to realize that personal achievement is about growth, impact, and the legacy we leave behind—not just the recognition we receive. Success, to me, now feels like using my platform to inspire others, staying true to my values, and continuing to evolve both as a model and as a person. Titles are fleeting, but the kindness, resilience, and authenticity we share with the world are what endure.
3. Starting your modeling journey so young, you must have grown up in the spotlight. How do you maintain a sense of authenticity and personal growth in an industry that often emphasizes external image?
Growing up in the modeling world, I’ve learned that authenticity is both a shield and a guide. While there is a strong emphasis on appearances, I’ve come to understand that true beauty stems from self-awareness and integrity. I make it a priority to stay grounded, whether it’s by spending time with loved ones, practicing gratitude, or continuously challenging myself to grow. I see personal growth as an ongoing journey, one that allows me to keep my values intact, even in an industry that can sometimes feel superficial.
4. Given your international experience, what advice would you give to young models about balancing ambition with self-awareness in an ever-changing industry?
I would advise young models to stay connected to who they are at their core, no matter how big their dreams are. Ambition is essential, but it should be balanced with self-awareness. In such a fast-paced industry, it’s easy to get lost in trends and pressures, but I’ve found that the strongest foundation is built on knowing yourself and honoring your values. Embrace growth, but stay grounded. Remember that your worth is not tied to the number of bookings or accolades, but to the integrity and kindness you bring to each opportunity.
5. How has your career influenced your perspective on beauty, and what do you think beauty represents on a deeper, perhaps more universal, level?
My career has taught me that beauty is multifaceted and cannot be confined to one definition. Initially, I saw beauty as something external, but over time, I’ve come to view it as a reflection of inner strength, compassion, and the courage to be authentic. To me, beauty on a universal level transcends appearances—it represents harmony, empathy, and the connection we share as human beings. True beauty is something that resonates with the soul and is felt more than it is seen.
